Last night, this simple symbol became a universal sign of support for the city of Paris. We spoke to Jean Jullien, who created the symbol, about how it came to be.

LAST NIGHT, AS the world reeled from an act of unfathomable hatred and cowardice, an artist’s heartfelt symbol of peace became a worldwide sign of support for France. The illustration is powerful in its simplicity: A peace symbol with the Eiffel tower, rendered in bold, black strokes against a white background. Though many attributed the emblem to the artist Banksy, French graphic designer Jean Jullien created the image, “Peace for Paris,” and posted it on Twitter and Instagram at around midnight Paris time. While marketers and advertisers chase Millennials, an overlooked segment offers other opportunities: Baby boomers comprise nearly a third of US adult broadband users, and 57% of them have a net-connected TV.

“Time spent viewing TV streaming is increasing among this segment,” said Michael Greeson, president of TDG. “Among smart TV users, 59% report an increase in TV streaming over the last year. The same holds for all streaming devices used by this segment.” (altro…)

2015 HAS BEEN another dire year for the music industry in terms of high-profile album sales. Only one release thus far, Drake’s If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, has sold a million copies, and it took six months to do so. The Chinese version of BBC Worldwide’s motoring format Top Gear has pulled in more than 200 million viewers over the first half of its second season.

Hoynee Media’s version, which airs on Shanghai Dragon TV, claimed an audience of 217 million across linear and online services during the first five episodes of its second run, according to BBCWW. (altro…)
