Star Wars Has Already Sold More Tickets Than the Year‘s Biggest Movie

Take that, dinosaurs.

That’s no moon . . . that’s the biggest opening weekend box office in history, staring right at us.

Everyone knows that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to be huge, but some new numbers suggest that it might be even more gigantic than anyone anticipated. Fandango reports that the new Star Wars film has sold the most tickets ever on their site—yes, more than films like Jurassic World had through the entire theatrical run. According to Varietythey’re not revealing the total number of tickets sold, but word has it that the film has already made more than $100 million in ticket sales. And given how many screens Star Wars plans to take over this weekend, there’s plenty more to be made from those bold enough to risk walking up to the box office and just buying a ticket.

Actually, Disney would be really happy if you just walked up and bought a ticket—in a statement they stressed that there are “literally millions of tickets available for this weekend,” and that theaters can even add more showings if things get too crowded. SO don’t risk having the entire thing spoiled for you! Go, now, buy!

The current record for the biggest box office opening of all time is held by this year’s Jurassic World, a hefty $208.4 million, and there’s no reason to thinkThe Force Awakens can’t surpass that, with even more nostalgic appeal, better reviews, and the promise of familiar characters who aren’t, um, dinosaurs. It puts us in a position for a repeat of the charming ad that Steven Spielbergtook out in Variety when the first Star Wars surpassed Jaws to become the biggest film of all time. Spielberg was just a producer on Jurassic World, and his old pal George Lucas is no longer involved with Star Wars at all, but it’s a nice little echo of history all the same.
